Background

Farah Farooqi is an experienced instructional, assessment, and remediation program designer, as well as former teacher, published author, professional editor, and content developer with a Master's degree in English and Creative Writing, and a Bachelor's in English and Developmental Psychology. Farah heralds extensive product development expertise, working with renowned educational publishing and e-learning companies. As a literacy and ELA subject matter expert, Farah continues to work effortlessly towards building educational products that not only help advance students academically, but incorporate state of the art technology, providing effective, high quality content and support for a new generation of learners and teachers.

Recent Roles and Responsibilities

 

In October 2017, Farah joined Curriculum Associates as a Senior Literacy Specialist on their i-Ready Instruction team for Reading Comprehension. Curriculum Associates is a highly successful education publishing company that designs research-based print and online instructional materials, screens and assessments, and data management tools for students and educators. They have achieved much prestige and recognition for their i-Ready Assessment and Instructional product lines. From 2017-2018, Farah helped develop guidelines, instructional content, and embedded assessments for the iReady product for Grades 3-5. In 2018, Farah took on a new editorial lead role as Supervising Editor (ELA), and working on iReady passage, instruction, and assessment content development for Grades 6-8.

 

From 2016 to 2017, Farah worked as a Senior Assessment Literacy Specialist at Classroom Inc, a nonprofit organization that helps students in high-poverty communities develop literacy and leadership skills. Farah initially assumed the role of Blending Learning Instructional Coach for the Professional Learning and School Support team, delivering product training, executing program implementation, providing instructional recommendations to teachers, and building meaningful relationships with school partners. With plans for another innovative educational product, Vital Signs, to be added to their Read to Lead suite, Farah was asked to join the Content and Curriculum team to create specifications for and manage the creation of the ELA CCSS-based digital assessment. Farah’s role on the Content team was not only to supervise the creation of all passages and items in Vital Signs, but to provide review, feedback, and revision of all content to ensure a rigorous, effective, and engaging educational product that met all readability and skill prescriptions. Farah also reviewed associated teacher and student materials such as the 300+ page Educator's guide which included daily curriculum, instruction, and lesson plans to help support skill growth and practice when used along with the assessment.

 

From 2010 to 2015, assuming key staff positions such as Managing Editor and Senior ELA Education Strategist within the Assessment and Intervention division at Amplify, an innovative educational technology company, Farah has taken on the role of thought leader and content specialist, ensuring that students and teachers are provided with the highest quality educational products. Farah designed, developed, and supervised CCSS based digital core and intervention instruction, assessments, and e-learning literacy products such as mCLASS®:Reading™ and Burst®:Reading. Her endeavors included designing the specs and guidelines for a new digitized TRC assessment product, as well as developing Amplify Atlas™, Amplify's first Benchmark book set built for the Common Core, from blueprints to final product. This product includes 76 leveled readers and associated oral and written assessment items. Since 2016, Farah continues to work as a project based consultant with Amplify, and as a part-time ELA Managing Editor creates and revises content for Burst and MClass products. Most recently, Farah has been helping to develop guidelines and content for a new large literacy-based assessment initiative with Amplify, a digital supplemental reading curriculum containing game-like activities that address critical skills in the areas of reading from phonemic awareness through comprehension. 

Exciting Endeavors

Farah's love for creating uplifting content continually motivates her to partake in new ventures. She is a founding organizer of Children's Media Association, a network created with the goal of educating, innovating, and connecting industry professionals, bound by a promise of developing excellent and inspirational content for young minds. Farah is also the owner of Heavenly Pen Creative Services, an educational content development company, providing both academic and editorial support to technology, publishing, and media industries. In her free time,
